In 2025, Holy Cross College, Kalutara proudly celebrates its 125th anniversary, marking over a century of academic excellence, spiritual growth, and holistic education. Founded in the late 19th century as a private school, it was officially named Holy Cross English School in 1890 by Rev. Fr. Wilkinson. Under Rev. Fr. Leo Fernando, it became a semi-government institution, laying the foundation for its prestigious status today.
Throughout its history, the college has grown under the leadership of dedicated rectors, expanding its infrastructure and excelling in academics, sports, and extracurricular activities. Highlights include a student securing the highest marks in the Cambridge Examination across the Commonwealth, the introduction of the Cadet Platoon, and national victories in speech and drama competitions. The era of Rev. Fr. Gaston Chaulieu (1930–1946) is remembered as a "Golden Era" with significant educational advancements.
